Hwa Am Cave in Jeongseon / Cabbage patch in Taebaek

I had trip to Jeongseon and Taebaek  for the last summber holidays.

The trip course was as follows.

1st day : Jeongseon Skywalk -> Lunch -> Hwa Am Cave -> Haw Am Mineral Spring ->  Dosagok Natural Recreation Forest
2nd day : Play in a mountain stream near Dosagok Natural Recreation Forest  -> Cabbage patch located in Mabong Mt. , Taebaek

I was very safisfied with Hwa Am Cave , Dosagok Natural Recreation Forest  , Cabbage patch during this trip.

I didn't have a plan to go to Jeongseon Skywalk. There was nothing special for me because I already went to Seonam-maeul shaped like Korean Peninsula. I wanted to go to  Hwa Am Cave directly but, it was only 11:30 am when I arrived at Jeongseon. Becuase It was early to have a lunch but I had no enough time, I had no choice other than to go to Jeongseon Skywalk. It wasn't  good  enough for me as expected.

 After that, I had rice with thistle for lunch in the restaurant called "Jeongseon ssarigol". The price was good, it was very tasty and the restaurant workers were very kind. Whenever I go to Jeongseon, I want to drop by this restaurant ^^

After lunch I travelled to Hwa Am Cave. I heard that  it used to be a Coal Mine.  It was cool inside the cave in the middle of summer  and it was easier to walk than other caves I've ever been to.

We can get to the entrace to the cave either by walk or monorail. There is a ticket booth here for the monorail passengers and the other ticket booth is in front of the mouth to the cave. It's hard to get there by walking in a hot season since the road is uphill all the way,I recommend you to take the monorail if you go there in summer. Once you get the ticket, you will be able to know what time you take the monorail. I arrived there at 1pm and my monorail time was 1:40pm.

Because the cave is like desending the mountain, as I mentioned before, it's easy to walk around the cave.

My next destination was Hwa Am Mineral Spring. Since the the road was too narrow and it was difficult to find the parking space, I had to wait in the car.  My wife went there but, she didn't get some water from mineral spring. She said that the water remains in the hole and we have to bend over and put our hands to the hole to get some water. Moreover, several people already were standing so, she gave up to try it this time.

After that, I drove to Dosagok Natural Recreation Forest.

When I was child, It was easy to see crayfish anywhere. However, it's getting difficult to see crayfish these days since they live in the cleanest water only. Becasue there is very clean streams around the natural recreation forest, my wife promised my daughter to catch crayfish this time. I couldn't catch crayfish on the first day but, I couldn't go home without success. Because I didn't want to let my daughter down, I tried it on the morning of the second day again and I could finally catch it. When I found a crayfish between two stones, I exclaimed in delight.

My final destination was Cabbage patch located in Mabong Mt.
The view of the 1.3million m² cabbage patch is from the mountain peak was magnificent.  
I strongly recommend you to visit there if you go to Taebaek city.

"Descendants of the sun" filming location, Taebaek Gowon Natural Recreation Forest , Gumunso, Paleozoic Museum in Taebaek city


There are a lot of tourist attactions in Taebaek city. I travelled to Taebaek again and made a room reservation at Taebaek Gowon Natural Recreation Forest this time.

The trip course was as follows.


1st day : Solgogae Pine tree  -> Manhangjae  -> Taebaek stir-fried chicken (Take out) -> Filming location of the famous TV drama "Descendants of the Sun"

2nd day : Gumunso, Taebaek Paleozoic Museum.

I happened into Solgogae on my way to Taebaek and stopped by there because of it's beautiful scenery. There is a 280-year-old fine tree. There is a sign to make a wish upon the pine tree. I did it  but, my wish hasn't come true yet (my wish is to win the lottery ^^).  Anyway, the scenery is good and it doesn't have to walk much to see the sights. If you go to Taebaek, I recommend you to drop by this place.

The unusal thing is that we can see the name of the village residents here.

I moved to to Manhangjae. It is famous for beautiful wildflowers and is located on the border Yeongwol, Jeongseon, and Taebaek. It was a bit difficult to drive there because of it's steep slope. That's when I think that I wish I had a nice car. It was really cold on the top of Manhangjae. Because I didn't prepare for the cold weather,  I didn't spend much time to look around here. I will come here in summer next time.

We have to eat even if it's extremely cold ^^

Why don't you try some "Gimbab" ??

There are some table and benches. Because the famous restaurants are always  crowded and noisy,  I think it's good idea to bring some food and enjoy a picnic with your family or freinds as long as it's not so cold.

Because it was cold, we couldn't see much wild flowers this time unfortunately.

 The most famous food in Taebaek is stir-fried chicken.I heard that we have to wait for at the least 1hour if we want to try it in there. There were lots of people in the restaurant and many people were already waiting. I was already full, I decided to take out. We can order the meals at the least for two.

Next, I  went to "Descendants of the sun" filming location because my wife loved this TV drama. According to Tmap, I try to find there but, it was the wrong way.

I could know the right way with the sign below.

If you see this sign, you're also going the wrong way.

The filming location for "Descendants of the sun" is not so big but, it's worth to visit.

We can try military uniform and doctor's gown and we can become like "Sijin Yoo" and "Moyeon Kang" There are are several sizes available and there are clothes for kids too. Best of all, there is no entrance fee ^^

After trying the military uniform and doctor's gown on, we can go around this place and take photo outside too.

There is PX too like military unit.

We can buy some drinks and a light snacks here but, it's not a tax exemption like real PX.

 After that, I moved to Taebaek Gowon Natural Recreation Forest. It way really good place to have a rest.

Children love this kinds of duplex type building. My daughter loved this place too.

It is the "Taebaek stir-fried chicken"  which I took out. It was yummy but, it was salty for me.

On the second day, I went to Gumunso and Paleozoic Museum.

Gumunso is designated as a natural monument number 417.

We can go down and walk around.

Lots of grape trees were there.

The entrance fee for the museum is just 2,000 Korean Won for adults and it's good for the price. It took about an hour and a half to look around.
